In John, Chapter 14, verse number six, Jesus made one of the most astounding proclamations in all of his ministry. Listen to what he said, I am the way, the truth, and the life, no one comes to the Father except through me.
This is a powerful claim. Jesus was saying that you can only have a relationship with the living God through faith in him. Now, why was he telling us that? Was he doing it so that we will become conceded or contentious? Or was he saying it because it was true?
Because God desires to have a relationship with every human being, but it can only come through faith in Jesus Christ. Paul said that Jesus is the one mediator between God and man.
We need to know today that Jesus is the exclusive way, I think for two reasons. One, we need to be assured that the one who we have placed our faith in is able to deliver on what he promised. We can have a relationship with God. And if you have put your faith and trust in Christ, you have that relationship.
Don’t let your behavior or the opinions of the world around you, or the whispers of Satan tell you that you are not a child of God. If your faith is in Jesus Christ, you have found the way, the truth, and you have been given the gift of eternal life. You have a relationship with God.
Secondly, we need to understand this because it reminds us of the urgency of our mission. People without Jesus Christ are lost. People without Jesus Christ, do not have a relationship with the living God. It’s not that they’re not as good as us. Sometimes their behavior may even be better. It’s not because they aren’t sincere or religious. But it’s because they have not embraced God’s truth, because they have not submitted to the gospel of Jesus Christ, that they are not able to have a relationship with the living God.
And so keep in mind, while the claim may be bold and unpopular, the reality is Jesus is the way, the truth, and the life and the only way to come to a relationship with the living God.
