Matthew chapter seven verses 13. And 14, Jesus gives us a great insight into the way of life. He says this, enter by the narrow gate, for the gate is wide, and the way is easy that leads to destruction. And those who enter by it are many, for the gate is narrow and away is hard, that leads to life. And those who find it are few.
Now, I want you to notice how countercultural that statement is. We live in a time where we’re told that you can pick any path you want, eventually, they will all lead you to God. But Jesus made it very clear that that wasn’t true. That’s one of the reasons why I believe he said that the gate is narrow because Jesus is the gate, he’s the only way in, and that the road is hard because we are going against the trend of our culture.
Now, why do we talk about this? Do we want to become conceited and contentious? And let everybody know that we’re on the road to life, and they’re on the path to destruction? No, that’s not the idea. The idea, though, is that we also understand that those without Christ are on the path to destruction. And that’s what makes the work of the ministry so urgent.
This is why we want to have a church that is healthy, a church that is functioning properly. Because it’s so easy for people to take the road to destruction. It’s simple. It’s there for everybody. And that’s why many are on it. We want them to know, though, that there’s a better way. It’s not better because it’s what we think. It’s not better because it’s what we believe. It’s better because it is the way that Jesus has provided.
There is a way to life and that life is eternal when we put our faith and hope in Christ. And so I want to encourage you to pray and to work to do all that we can to bring people to the love of Jesus so they can discover the true way of life.
