In the book of Revelation, in chapter number three, we see a letter to the church of Philadelphia. I was so excited when I saw that I even dressed the part today. But actually, this is the church in Asia Minor. But I want you to know what Jesus said to this church. Once again, he begins with these words, I know your works. And then he tells them in Revelation three verse eight.
Behold, I have set before you an open door, which no one is able to shut. I know that you have but little power, and yet you have kept my word and have not denied my name.
I love this church because it represents an age when missions, the worldwide spread of the gospel was on fire. This is the revival church. This is the mission sending church and today, I am excited because I believe that we can still have the same spirit.
The Church in Philadelphia had an open door. And here’s the beauty of it. The door was opened by the Lord. And he said, when I open it, no one can shut it. And so he told the church that he understood that they had and listened to this expression, but little power.
Isn’t it interesting that the Lord is not looking for the strong and the powerful, he’s not looking for the highly qualified. In fact, I think one of the best abilities that we can have for the Lord is just availability.
We don’t need our own strength. We don’t need our own power. He wants us to operate in the power of the Holy Spirit, and that is available to each and every one of us and to every church today.
May we operate in that power, realizing we have before us and we do a great open Door.
What opportunities is God giving you? What opportunities is God giving us today that we need to follow up on? He’s open the door. Let’s walk through it. Let’s be a church that carries on the mission and brings glory to the name of Jesus and rescues people from the power of Satan.
