We’ll very clearly we are in a battle. And that’s why we need the whole armor of God. That’s what the Apostle Paul talked about in Ephesians chapter six, verses 11 through 17.
Now we come to another very important element of spiritual warfare. Let me read to you Ephesians six, verse 18, praying at all times in the spirit, with all prayer and supplication to the end. Keep alert with all perseverance, making supplication for all the Saints.
And so we see here the importance of prayer in the spiritual battle. And notice it was prayer in the spirit. I think that means that it is led by the Holy Spirit of God. That it is empowered by the Holy Spirit of God. Our prayers are powerless without the Holy Spirit.
And also it takes us into the realm of the spirit world. Prayer is not just a function, it’s not just words that we say it’s not vain repetitions. It is a heartfelt Spirit-led experience. And I want to encourage you to be a person of prayer.
And why is this so important in spiritual warfare? Well, prayer, first of all, is our connection with God. God is our supply line. You can have all the armor, and all the weapons that you need, but you also need to be supplied. You need information, you need nourishment, and that comes spiritually only from the Lord. He is our supply line.
Also, he is our commander in chief. You need to have communication with the Lord because he’s the one who will give you orders that will give you direction. He sees the whole battle, and he knows just where you need to be and what you need to be doing. So spend time in prayer, talking to God seeking God, listening to God, in make prayer, a vital part of your life. For yourself, and as we see in this passage, praying for others.
You can’t protect your comrades, but the Lord can be the one who watches over them and protects them. And so give attention to your prayer life in every matter.
