I’ve been enlisting people to join my 4H club. The one I’m talking about comes from things that we learn in the Bible. God wants us to be humble people. God wants us to be a holy people. And with that, let me tell you today, another one.

God wants us to be a happy people. The Bible tells us in the book of Deuteronomy, chapter 33, verse 29, happy are you Oh, Israel, who is like you have people saved by the Lord, the shield of your help, and the sword of your triumphs? Your enemies shall come fawning to you, and you will tread upon their backs.

They were a happy people because they were delivered by the Lord. And in the spiritual sense, we are also delivered by the Lord. We were never slaves in Egypt. But we’ve been delivered from the bondage of sin. And we as followers of Christ should be a happy people.

One of our values at The Bridge Church that we really try to emphasize is that we should have fun. We should have fun in our lives and fun when we come together in church. In fact, it is fun to serve the Lord, especially when you consider it’s not something you have to do. It’s something you get to do.

When the Queen of Sheba came and saw the people of Israel under King Solomon, at a time when they were deeply devoted to the Lord and walking according to his wisdom, listen to what she had to say in First Kings, chapter 10, verse eight, happy are your men, happy are your servants who continually stand before you and hear your wisdom.

Yes, God wants us to be a happy people. So I want to encourage you to do the things that will make you happy. Now, I don’t mean indulge in things. I’m thinking about the things that really will make you happy. Things like obeying the Lord and serving others and being generous to the needy.

Jesus said in John chapter 13, verse number 17 If you know these things, blessed are you if you do them. And in many translations, that word blessed there means happy. Where does real happiness come from? In serving and obeying the Lord and following his example of serving others. So let’s add this quality to our club and let’s be a happy people.
